I was a case worker for 28 years, with the Connecticut Department of Social Services. My caseload consisted of a variety of persons and families in need: nursing home patients, disabled adults, single mothers (or fathers), children on Medicaid, and families on food stamps. Occasionally, I received letters from clients that were sad, strange, downright funny, or a combination of all three. This is my all-time favorite. I have included a copy of the original letter, plus a literal transcription of it.
“Dear Sir; yr 1982-I was working with my tractor which went over my body to make things worse. It slowed me down. I raised my log splitter without getting on the seat. A neighbor said the tractor was moving. I went to get on but slipped under the wheel which went over my head broke 7 ribs and put me to Hospital for 1 mo, was a 70 horsepower tractor”
