The architect was Edwin Thayer Barlow, who was born in 1869, and lived almost all of his adult life on Church Street, in North Adams. He received a degree in architecture from Cornell University in 1891. In addition to the Dowlin Block, he designed the Boardman Apartments, a Colonial-Revival-style building near Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, and worked on the façade of the New York Public Library. He died at the age of 90. I was unable to locate any descendants.
